Ragnar is an Icelandic singer-songwriter whose melodic, elaborate pop/rock music emphasizes clear, to-the-point personal lyrics. With a few exceptions, his recordings are voice and piano only, with neither dominating the other.
Ragnar mostly writes in his head and on the piano, although the guitar is never far away. He tries to make each individual song, whether long or short, a complete, stand-alone piece, often taking years before the melody, the chord-structure and the lyrics are all to his liking.
Ragnar was born in Iceland. As a little boy, he briefly studied classical guitar, but soon started writing his own songs. After a stint in the band Halldór and Fílupúkarnir, and having participated in a couple of song contests, he left Iceland for London, where he recorded a few songs and wrote many more, while studying at the London Film School.
From there he went to Madrid, where he has lived ever since. He studied classical piano for many years, which he credits with opening up new dimensions in his songwriting. After a decade or so as a member of the band Q-Mood, he now records and performs as an independent singer-songwriter.
